Hey!

I don´t believe that nuclear power is a suitable solution for mankind´s energy shortness. It is not reasonable to build up new nuclear power plants. We should not accept nuclear technology without criticism, how Frederic does in a certain way.

We all have to accept that uranium is a fossile energy resource, too. When we keep using it in the amount of today, the world´s reservoir of it will end in about 50 to 60 years, just like coal, gas, oil (source: German governmental department of economy).

Everybody can imagine how each new nuclear energy plant fastens these developments. The hunger for uranium will increase, it´s reservoir will empty faster. So we should try to find alternatives to it as fast as possible instead of wasting money on this dying sort of energy. Every Cent that is used to support nuclear technology is an investment in the past, not in the future.

All our efforts must be concentrated on the development of modifications that make existing power plants more efficient. We must focus on renewable energy sources such as wind and water energy. Particularly the possibilities of solar energy are amazing: recognize that only 1 % of the sun´s energy that reaches our planet would be adequate to satisfy our planet´s hunger for energy!

Frederic, yes, we have the choice: Between an old an nevertheless dangerous energy source and renewable energy sources!

Best regards,

David (Friedrichshafen - lake constance)

Dear David,

We don't have 40 years in front of us.

We don't have TIME.

It's a matter of a couple of years, 1O years max.

100 % safe doen't exist.

Stop dreaming please, open your eyes and read the book : There are other sources than uranium to work a nuclear facility, plus, it will only be a problem (the shortage ) in 2 generations.

Please don't ask for the impossible : Let's use what we have .

Yours sincerely,

Fred

2. It' a question of ambition by Asynjen Join PES activists on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 10:30

I very much agree with David: we should look for sustainable energy sources. I have followed the debate on Yourspace and it's my impression that nuclear energy is a short-term solution with dangerous side effects. I for sure wouldn't like to have a nuclear plant as my next door neighbour.

When Frederic says that we do not have time to explore alternative options, I don't agree: it is not a question of time, but rather of the ambitions and goodwill of our governments. The world's states should commit themselves to ambitious targets and invest in research in new energies. In my view this is the only way to ensure both a clean and safe world.
